Five Winter Parties for Kids

Five Winter Parties for Kids

Birthday party planning for children is always tricky and just becomes that much worse during the winter months as we find it difficult to head out on those rainy or cold days. Activities become limited and the outdoor kids’ play parks are closed. Most people opt for home or indoor-based parties but sometimes struggle on themes ideas.
We’ve done a little homework and scanned the net for some ideas and put together a list of five party themes we think are the best:
1.         Dress-Up
This is a new take on the classic ‘fancy dress party’ where instead of having the kids arrive already dressed up, go out and hire a few costumes, wigs and fun accessories in different sizes and let the kids dress up and dress each other up at the party. You could possibly get some props, create a theme or let them team up and put on a performance for the others. Adorable! Be sure to keep the video camera ready.
2.         Home Movie Theatre
Darken the room, draw the shades and transform your lounge into a movie cinema! Most cinemas allow you to buy some empty popcorn boxes and drink cups that you could serve refreshments in during the movie. If you really wanted to achieve the full cinematic experience, you could hire a projector and screen for the day.
3.         Children Play
In the weeks leading up to the party, check your local theatre for age appropriate plays and performances that you think the children would enjoy.  Most theatres have restaurants nearby where you could take the group for a yummy meal afterwards.
4.         Arts ‘n crafts
Face paints, clay, canvas – there is no art limit to this birthday theme. Have various “art corners” set up where the kids can rotate from one to the other. Craft ideas could include things like paper mache or pottery and add some extra miscellaneous items for general crafts, like felt, buttons and feathers.
5.         Home cooking Night
Let the kids play for the supper! Prepare some pizza dough the day before the party and pick up a generous array of toppings. On the night of the party, let the kids have fun rolling out their pizza dough and shape them however they like. For dessert, you could set up a chocolate fondue and some strawberries and biscuits – fun and messy!
